One Huge Step Forward in America

December 13, 2016

This is my first guest blog written by the fantastic Matt Mongillo, a mental health blogger from Connecticut, United States. I want to say a massive thank you for such an inspiring post Matt, it is truly wonderful to hear of the change that has taken place in America today!

When Jodie asked me to write something for her blog, I knew instantly what I wanted to talk about.  The vast majority of people that I talk to in relation to my mental health are British or from some other part of Europe. I hear all the time about how poorly mental health is treated there. I decided it would be a good idea to write about how mental health is treated here in the United States. I have great news on that front. Earlier today (12/13/16), President Barack Obama signed the Mental Health Reform Act into law, giving $1 billion towards mental health services around the country.

What I am most proud of is that the man who spearheaded this bill and was fighting for it every day is a man who represents my home state of Connecticut, Senator Chris Murphy. This is the most comprehensive and important bill in terms of mental health in a long, long time. But our work is far from over. And I really REALLY hope that President Voldemort err Trump doesn't erase the progress that we have made. I will do what I can to help prevent that.

Thank you for reading,

Matt :)
